We're actually celebrating Christmas in July over here at the Veit house because our carpet was installed today! I'm finding it a little humorous just how excited we've been for this stuff to finally arrive. One, because in a past life, I actually recall telling my mom once that 're-carpeting' a room should definitely not be a thing. There was probably a furrowed brow and slight eye-roll involved. But this was long before I knew there were actual good carpets out there to be had and oh how naive I was.
Secondly, in the grand scheme of things we need to do to this house (like gutting an entire kitchen), carpeting two 150 sf. back bedrooms does tend to feel sorta small. But because this is the very first thing we've hired out in our reno-process so far, and the way it's pretty much polished off our bedrooms, it really feels like a huge reason to celebrate. Even more, with just 15 weeks of pregnancy to go, we can now start really pulling together Baby Veit's nursery!
While my past experience in the design industry brought me lots opportunities to specify carpet for commercial spaces, I had never actually selected carpet for a home before this. I was confident in knowing I wanted something with a loop-pile over a cut pile, and I got totally hooked on carpets with a little bit of depth in their texture especially something of a honeycomb or cross weave variety. After visiting a few local showrooms, I found the San Lucas collection from Anderson Tuftex at just the right price point for our budget with an exciting minimalist texture and it just felt like a fit. Not to mention it's so soft and deluxe to the touch I couldn't wait to get it under my feet, vacuum it, lay on it, stare at it, roll around on it. If you're a fellow lover of tactility, you know how it is...
Just LOOK at how soft and cozy this room is becoming!!
The sheer amount of good neutral colors available in the San Lucas collection nearly stumped us. We debated back and forth between a few of the lighter oatmeal-ey tones, but ultimately decided to trust our guts on the 'Natural' option. Not too light, not too brown, and pumps this room full of all the soft coziness we were hoping for. Even Knox boy loves it!
In total, we carpeted 314 square feet between two bedrooms and two closets for about $5.50/square foot including the carpet itself, carpet pad, and professional installation. There are obviously a million options at lower price points and a million in the higher range, but for our specific budget and desired look+quality, this update truly feels like a grand slam. We couldn't be happier!
Next up for our two bedrooms, I have an exciting experiment in the mental works for updating the bi-fold closet doors that came with the house, and we are aiming to tackle the actual build out of the closet systems here in the next couple weeks. In the meantime, I'll be trying to pep-talk myself into putting those first holes into these perfectly wallpapered walls to hang some window treatments (*nervous laughter*).
